Missing at the WTC Picture Hoax
September 2001
This photo started making the rounds after the disaster at the World
Trade Center. It is supposed to be of someone that was killed in the
disaster but his camera survived. The photo is pretty obviously a fake.
Look at the shadows on the person's face and compare them to the shadows
on the airplane (look at the sides and in the engine cowls.) The person
is illuminated from a point that is low and to the side of the photo
while the plane is illuminated from a point that is high and in front of
it. It is a little hard for the sun to be in two places at the same
time. Other hoax sites that have looked at the photo point out a lot of
other problems with it, such as the fact that the observation decks
don't open until 9:30am, 30 minutes after this photo was supposed to
have been taken. Also, the photo is looking north from the observation
deck on the south tower but the south tower was hit by a plane coming
from the south not from the north.
We recently received a note from Jonathan Derden (We were initially
contacted by his father - thanks Dad.) who recognized the airplane in
the photo as one of his copyrighted photos. Jonathan's photo is
reproduced here, with permission, following the faked photo. You can

airplane in the two photos, you can see that they appear to be
identical, including the small black object to the left of the tail
(probably an open access door). Using a photo editor, someone removed
the landing gear and all of the background around the airplane and then
inserted it into a vacation photo taken from one of the observation
decks of the World Trade Center. Jonathan also mentioned that one more
way to know the photo is a fake is that the airplane is a 757 while the
airplanes that hit the World Trade Center were 767s.

This is just an astonishing picture. ...this was from a camera found in
the wreckage of the WTC, developed by the FBI for evidence and released
on the net today....the guy still has no name and is missing ...
